Peter and Joe, I'm thinking more of a lack of appetite for Charles. He has shown to be a political meddler.
Can anyone tell me what the Queen's politics are? No, because she has remained apolitical. Charles, on the other hand, was admonished when it was revealed he had written letters of complaint to elected representatives.
Two monarchists I know told me they have no appetite for Charles (some are suggesting we "skip" Charles and go to William, but that's not exactly how monarchy works).

Some years ago it was suggested that Charles might choose to be known as George VII when he becomes king.••• "Arthur" is also an option, tho numbering might present a problem.

Or perhaps Edward IX? But he may be wary again about comparisons being drawn with Edward VIII.
Robbie, yes, I've also heard suggestions that Charles ought to relinquish his succession in favour of his son, but I can't see that he'll do it, after waiting, what 50 odd years to become king!

I have no problem with Charles becoming king, but the political meddling must stop. It's constitutionally dangerous.
The monarch has a weekly meeting with the Prime Minister. No record is kept of the meeting, no notes are taken. It has been stated that this is where the monarch shares his/her concerns and keeps up with matters of the realm. That's fine, but a monarch writing to government officials, and getting political, is not a path I want to see this country go down.

@Robbie:
Yes, I agree - upon becoming king, which I assume he will, Charles (or George, or Edward!) will have to accept the limitations of his role, even as he's elevated to and by it.
Did you ever watch the original BBC series "House Of Cards"? The second series showed the king (clearly meant to be Charles) struggling to reconcile his private conscience, political concerns, and public role.

"Skip". When I hear this it makes me laugh.
One of the many things we are known for in the UK is our Cueing! This represents the ultimate cue.
One never cuts or skips the line. One may be invited to pass, for sure but never skip!

Charles (or George, or Edward!)••• His name is Charles Philip Arthur George. As I understand it, those are his choices. Edward is not in the mix.

Hmm. "Another" King Arthur might be interesting... and there hasn't officially been one yet, as far as my research discerned (not exhaustive, I'll grant.)
British friends and experts, would that be something that would be welcomed? Ridiculed? Castigated?

There was a King Arthur. He and Robin Hood travelled to Switzerland and met William Tell once.
