Hop on a plane tonight and come to the TCM Classic Film Festival this weekend! :-)
I was unemployed for about a year, and at first I loved the time off from coming off a challenging job, and then I started to get stir crazy. I was living in Los Angeles and had worked since the time I arrived in town and had not really explored the city. So I just started being a tourist in my own city and ending up having a fulfilling time. I applied for jobs in the morning and then made day trips. It's how I got into hiking. I'm glad I had that time - it was before my current job, which was a bear to get accustomed to!
I look forward to your next project, JB - whatever it may be. I would love to see a return of LEONARD McCOY: FRONTIER DOCTOR. I also think it would be an appropriate time to see DANGER UNLIMITED come back. I think that is such fertile ground you created with just a few issues.

John Byrne: Art Instructor
That has a nice ring to it.
JB - Has the thought ever entered your mind?

JB, any travel locations you have always wanted to visit, once you had the opportunity?
( Now have this image of JB and a few artist friends doing their own version of "Better Late Than Never" )

I've been largely absent from the board lately, so I had missed the announcement that you'd be stepping away from things...enjoy the freedom that you've earned!

Mr. Byrne, I hope you enjoy your hiatus and find projects to keep your mind occupied and your body active.
If it happens that we've seen the ultimate in your comic and photonovel work, then thanks a lot, and so long.
Should it be that you find a project worthwhile to engage in, you can be confident that there'll bet quite an audience for it.
Good luck. I hope something comes along that captures your attention and is a complete and delightful surprise. Delightful surprises are nice.

If I had the time and money, I would jet around the world, first class, and explore at my leisure. No tour groups to hustle me around. No tight schedules to fit in as much as possible in a couple hours. But that's just me.

I'm always crossing my fingers that the commissions start happening at some point. I used to love seeing them pop up on almost any given day. (Especially Sundays)
If they ever start happening again, I'm sending an e-mail to Jim. Would love to add to my JB collection.

First: Root Beer Floats are the most perfect beverage ever! (I don't drink alcoholic stuff, but it all smells nasty anyway)
2nd: Being a teacher, I have no intention of staying at my job longer than necessary. Nothing's worse than a burnt out teacher, just going through the motions. And there are other things I can do (like draw!).
Speaking of teaching--I know JB hasn't been interested in instructing others in the past--but you may come talk to my students any time you like! (K-4 art! Influence the next generation!)

A youtube channel about giving some of your tips on how to draw... the John Byrne way... That would be nice...
But yep, I really would love to see you going back to the drawing board for some projects.
In all seriousness, now you can really consider to travel all around the world (try Asia... say Hong Kong ), either to meet your many fans or not ! I do not think you can ever be that "old guy " you mention !

Were I in that position I would probably take some classes in something interesting.
Though I understand if you don't want to become Pierce Hawthorne.
