I feel like Marvel should have been passing on a cut to JB each time they renegotiated more money to licence out his art.

Satriani commenting on Marvel not being grateful enough for his album reviving interest in the Silver Surfer: "...That's Hollywood for you."
Totally guessing here, but my sense is that the concept of an artist being responsible for the art he used seems 2 or 3 steps beyond his grasp of how he views this whole thing.

I wouldn't know this album exists if it wasn't for this forum, so I don't see how it's supposed to have awakened interest in the character. Never heard of Joe Satriani.
