He did. Clive, played by Mark Benton, specifically says 'that's your Doctor there, isn't it?' Suggesting that there are other Doctors. he is just showing Rose evidence of the Eccleston one.

Actually, his reference to “the Doctor” being an inherited title makes a much better case for him being aware of the multiple iterations. Doesn’t help with him somehow knowing the latest version is Rose’s.

We know they have had e-mail conversations before meeting. Might his appearance have come up?
