(Bill... 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA is one of Douglas' best.  And one of my all-time fave Disney live-action films!)

I saw 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea on a grade school field trip, sometime around 1972 or 1973. Kirk Douglas certainly made a lasting impression.

I'll never forget his insistence on speaking at the Oscars right after having a stroke.

Loved 20,000 LEAGUES as a kid, glad to hear the
outpouring of love/appreciation for SPARTACUS over these
last couple days. I happened to just purchase it on
Blu-Ray a couple weeks ago. I'll have to give it a spin
soon.

RIP to a true Hollywood legend.

Sad news.

For me his most memorable roles were in PATHS of GLORY, which is on the short list as one of my favorite films all-time.
And LUST for LIFE, where he is completely believable while losing his sanity.

Like many others I first encountered him watching 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. (Which I loved.) But he gave soooo many great performances. Him and Burt Lancaster were just titans to me. But my favourite of his perfomances was probably his role in Ace in the Hole. That one just blew me away.

R.I.P. Mr Douglas. You certainly earned it..
