I didn't see very many of his movies, but in the ones that I did see he was superb.

Other JBF members have mentioned his performances in FIRST BLOOD and SILVERADO. But I also enjoyed his small role in GORKY PARK where he plays an American ally to the Russian homicide detective played by William Hurt.

And I also enjoyed his 2005 role as the boozing, womanizing Senator from Florida in THE WEST WING. He has a terrific scene with the late John Spencer in that episode that I still enjoy watching from time to time.

Rest in peace, sir.

Ah, man. I saw him in a Broadway production of Inherit the Wind, opposite Christopher Plummer. Awesome stage presence and gravitas.

First Blood (agree with Doug), Silverado, Best Seller, and the F/X movies are my favorite movie roles of his. Was happy when he popped up in a recurring role on The Blacklist.

R.I.P.

Him and the late great J T Walsh were probably my two favourite character actors of all time.

A good example of what made him such a fine onscreen presence was when he starred alongside James Woods In 'Best Seller. As this was when Woods was at his scene stealing best. And yet Dennehy matchs him scene for scene, line for line. It's a real masterclass in understated acting.

And I don't think I'd even want to watch First Blood without him in it.

Such a loss. And as others have said a consumate professional on stage as well. I so wish I'd been able to see him.

R.I.P Mr Dennehy..

We watched Tag (2018) last night. It was a nice surprise to see him in a small but very funny part.

Growing up it seemed like Dennehy was everywhere, so it was surprising to read over his credits and realize I've only seen him in a half-dozen or so films. But it was the right six films, at the right time in my life, to make him seem ubiquitous.

Due to a crazy week - I've only just heard this.

He was amazing as John Wayne Gacy in 'To Catch a Killer'.

Weirdly, it's only a month or so ago that I had a bit of a Dennehy watchfest, including a few of those Jack Reed TV movies.

RIP Brian

In the movie Cocoon, he pulls the corner of his eye down and light shines out, and that always made me think of Cable. I wonder if early 80s Brian Dennehy would have been a good Cable.
