I don't know if Star Trek gives out No Prizes, but I assumed that the Enterprise could take out the Borg because they hadn't encountered phaser tech before at that point and so were not able to counter it effectively. BUT if the Enterprise meets another Borg cube there could be trouble.
That video has been out for ages. I wouldn't take its comments to harshly as most of the writers resort to Trekism/Trek tropes or "Batman can be beat everyone given enough time" (Kirk being Batman in this case), going for such nonsense that Kirk would talk the Borg down (conversation is irrelevant) or romancing the Borg Queen (yes because Kirk boned every woman he came across).
The Borg definitely would give Kirk a hard time had they shown up in the original series and it would have required him and his crew all their wits and resources to destroy or drive of a single Borg cube. (I am talking about the TNG Borg here, not the watered down VGR Borg), and they probably would still need some kind of third party assistance. Without plot armor the crew would have been toast.
I still think that "Resistance" probably handles the Kirk-faces-the-Borg the best way without resorting to too much technical talk. The crew had two advantages in this case; the Borg already being damaged which affected their behavior, and that their super weapon could be turned against their own ship.
I thought this was well done up to the corbomite bluff clips used... okay, it was funny how that played out this time, but so overly-familiar. Somebody did a good job with the voices saying new things aspect however on other scenes. I would've had Chekov (the screamer)for an assimilation scene! :^D
Not something I'd ever actually want to see though.
