Matt —

I can’t find a date on the Rule 34 book! It’s mostly drawings we’ve seen before... but there is a sketch or two that was new to me.

Something I’ve long thought makes a JB drawn man recognisable as a
JB drawn man - the pecs & midrif.
That calendar posted on the last page illustrates this very well for me,
especially Iron Man & the Human Torch

Puts me in mind of a kid at a MidOhioCon. After watching me do several sketches he asked (in a slightly accusatory tone) why I always drew the chest and sternum arch “the same way”.

I was slightly speechless for a moment, then asked “You think I should draw them differently?”

He just shrugged and walked away, probably with a freshly minted Big Bad Byrne story in his pocket.

He was probably coming @ it from the opposite direction from me. I like
the fact that I can see them & instantly know they were drawn by you.
Even when the angle and shading changes, there is still something that
is quintessential Byrne.

I’ve loved it for decades

Recognizable elements are part of having a “style”, no? Nothing wrong with that... especially if those recognizable elements are APPEALING.

I’m not sure what this is... but I now own it! 😄 An interesting piece of JB art I’ve never seen or heard of before... anyone have any info on this?

Nathan, I'm glad it arrived safely! I don't know
if you realize I'm the guy who sold that to you.
:-) It was a neat ashcan I picked up in a
collection I bought a few months ago, and decided
to list it on eBay. It was cool when I realized
that you were the buyer. I know it's at a good
home!

Michael, thanks for that link! I forgot about that thread! I knew I had heard about the S.O.B. comic, and the JB cover, when I picked up the ashcan Nathan bought from me, but I had forgotten the details, such as the connection to my pal Vince and that cover! (Hey... It has been 10 years since I first heard about it, after all.)

No problem, Matt H. Although now I’m concerned there’s some sort of memory filter attached to the comic that causes all to forget details about it.

I have no memory of that old thread or the comic! Thank you for the info, Michael!

And I saw the note attached with the comic, Matt — I wondered if that was you!! Thanks for selling it to me! :)
