efinitely didn't care for the shiny ice Iceman... too
easy (as a new reader) to mix up with the Silver
Surfer... and anyway, the first time I saw him he was
the snowy version in the Amazing Adventures reprint
series

Three is enough to start an official Snowy Iceman Fan Club, right?

(I hope it isn't too warm, Ron. After all, we wouldn't want him to... Well... You know.)

I don't have a problem with Storm's original costume.  Though I also liked her replacement costume when she regained her powers during Marc Silvestri's art tenure.

If the issue is simply that it shows off too much skin, it's a rather easy fix.  Of course, we'd get something looking closer to the Silvestri costume.

Iceman always had the potential to be one of the more powerful X-Men.  It's just that most writers were content to simply have him make ice sculptures or make ice blasts.  A little creativity could have utilized his powers in other ways.

I know an attempt to rectify this was done in the 90s when Emma Frost temporarily controlled his body.  I never liked that though.  Instead of someone else using those powers differently, it should have been Drake deciding to be more creative and investigating other uses.  That would have shown more respect for the character.

^I agree. It shouldn't take somebody using your body and powers like a puppeteer to reveal how powerful you really are.

JB's description of the "cracking" sound makes me think that part of Bobby's power is that his skin is protected from ice and cold. I guess that fits in with whatever little bonuses keep Warren safe while flying and keep Spidey's bones from breaking when he picks up a car.

I've always had a soft spot for Bobby's ice powers. They seem so real world useful. I'd love to see a story where he and Hank travel the world restoring glaciers and aquifers in a combination of ice and science. That's one way to make people love mutants.

I think this is Iceman's first ELSEWHEN appearance?

••

You may be right! I checked, and he didn't make a cameo appearance in the big Sentinel battle, so he's not likely to have been anywhere else.

About Storm's costume. Since I "returned" to the X-Men with ELSEWHEN, I have been struggling to make it work for me. Back in the Eighties, this was not a problem. The costume was very "disco"

Now you've done it - I can't get out the image of Storm in that John Travolta pose from SNF!

Better disco than punk!

(When it comes to her costume, not musically.)

Interesting. Bad Bobby seems almost afraid of Good Bobby.

I always loved that ad.

••

The one that used Dave's art to announce my arrival on the book?

A constant source of frustration for Roger Stern, during his first months as editor. Every time an X-Men ad or reference turned up, it was Dave's clip art that was used. Finally Rog went "down the hall" and cleared out the files, replacing the Cockrum art with Byrne art!

It'll be interesting to see who warned "our" Iceman and how he arrived at the mansion.

This issue is amazing. I went back to read it again and was amazed at how much had been fit into it and yet remaining at what feels like a natural pace. Awe inspiring.

Thanks JB.
