Apologies if this has been covered before!  I didn't see a thread about this when I searched the forum.

I'm always looking to upgrade my Byrne tpb & hardcover collection and recently came across Volume 2 of JB's Next Men Premiere Edition from IDW.  I have the Dark Horse tpb's so I resisted the IDW B&W collections when they were released. I wasn't aware of the hardcover Premiere Editions that were released at the same time or I would have snapped them up!

So I bought volume 2 at a very good price from a small local comics shop & ordered Vol 1 off Amazon that same afternoon (also for a very good price! ). I was really excited to fill-in that gap in my JB hardcovers (I've given up on most new comics so you can imagine the collector's thrill of discovering a new-to-me JB hardcover set)!   Anyhow, I was surprised when Volume 1 showed up this afternoon and it is significantly smaller than the Volume 2 that I bought. Volume 2 is about an inch and a half taller and an inch wider than volume 1 (it might be more since I'm just eyeballing my measurements).  Needless to say, they look really odd next to each other on my book self.

IDW is usually consistent in their formats. Is this size discrepancy typical of the Premier hardcover format? Did I goof up and buy different formats?  I would post a pic but unfortunately I'm a dope when it comes to resizing pictures on my phone.

Unfortunately Volume 3 is really tough to find (if anyone has a lead towards a copy that isn't too expensive I will forever be in your debt!) but I'll hit up every comics store and used book shop that I see until I score one- sadly, from what I can tell, it's going to be quite a while before that happens...

Hi Roberto,

I have all 3 of those Premier Edition Next Men HCs!

And I can confirm Volume 1 is smaller in size than Vols 2 & 3.
Though I can`t remember the reason why?
Hmmm

I also have a spare copy of Vol 3 - tho it unfortunately has a tear
in the dust jacket -  If you`d like it :)
Also I found nice, intact, used copies of 2&3 together on a certain auction website...
( located in Australia by coincidence!)

CHeers!

The size differences were what's known in publishing circles as a "mistake".

Hope that wasn't too technical. ;-)

Ditto. It would be the perfect collection. of JB's first NEXT MEN run if that first volume were the same size as the following two.

Of course, I also have the phone book, sooo...

Roberto, I love the six Dark Horse trades, but they exclude the "M4" back-up
stories that started in issue #7. The Dark Horse trades also start with issue #6,
while the Premiere editions present the issues in release order.

I think the Premiere hardcovers are great - the size difference didn't bother
me. I think the only missed opportunity was that the third edition should have
been EVEN BIGGER - then the printing mistake becomes a comment on how
the story literally grows as it progresses, or some lame academic rationale like
that.

I would like to see SCATTERED and AFTERMATH printed in the premiere
format.

****

I really like the B&W "Compleat" versions of this story - it works really well in
that format. And this two volume version has "2112" as a bonus.

Thanks everyone for the clarification on the size differences in Vols. 1 & 2!  Mistakes happen.

I'm interested in your extra copy of volume 3, Mike.  Maybe we can talk about it & work something out? I'm on Facebook Messenger.  Let me know the best way to contact you. I appreciate the help!

That' a cool idea, Tim! I can only imagine how big the volumes would be by the end of Aftermath!

Hey Wallace, what’s the actual name of the phone book versions please?  I’d like to try to buy it/them if I can locate. Thank you.

Do any of these reprint “A Flame About This High”?

Paul, "A Flame About This High..." from issues #1-12 is collected at the end of the second Dark Horse trade ("Parallel") and the remaining articles are in book four ("Faith").

I’d like to have a collection of all of the letters pages and/or “A Flame
About This High”s.
