Fascinating facts about our not too distant cousins.

I enjoyed how she so matter-of-factly classified humans as apes. I got into serious trouble in high school for making just that assertion.

The little kid in me cannot but delightedly think of King Kong when viewing some of this.

But definitely not delightful the part describing that chimps have been known to grab human babies and eat them.

The behaviour of chimps, in particular, is enough to make one wonder how much of our so-called human behaviour is "programmed" from our common primate ancestors.

Chimps and gorillas are mixed up in the the perception of too many people. Gorillas are big and savage, while chimps are cute and cuddly. In nature, it’s much closer to the other way around.

Further reading online finds some truly horrific reports of chimps attacking young children and infants.

Exactly!

I know a gorilla could turn my bones to pulp if he was so inclined, but seems like chimps can go off on a berserker rage in a snap.
Stories of them ripping people's faces off stick in my head.

The violence that chimps are capable of is astonishing. Our closest relatives...! No surprise.

One thing I can say I learned from Howard The Duck comics is that we are "hairless apes" as he called us. Waugh?

Makes me think of Project Nim (very different from Project X!).

From what I've heard, animal researchers are MUCH more frightened of dealing with chimps than they are the great apes.
