I realized the other day that I had given away the last of my comp copies of COLD WAR, so rather than bugging IDW I ordered half a dozen from Amazon. In that wonderful way the internet has, I found myself passing over a few reviews, one of which absolutely shredded the book -- principle reason for hating it: it looks like John Byrne drew it. (I actually think CW is some of my best work, but there y'go!)The most fun, however, was the descrption of the opening sequence in which, it says here, Michael Swann has sex with a shape-changing demon in the form of a woman. Honest!

The artwork was very crisp and featured some great pages that, without dialogue, told the story.... recognized some James Bond elements, but it was fun book!! "Shape-changing demon"??? What was he smoking?

Well, it DOES look as if John Byrne drew it. Keen analysis, and a dreadful reason for disliking it.
Someone might get the idea of a shape-changing demon if they didn't actually read the book, or were congenital. That book is so down to Earth, I'm surprised it wasn't growing apple trees. (Not to compare it to fertilizer, mind you!)

A demon? Give me strength!
Looks like our host drew it? Well, of course. I'm a KISS fan, but I didn't like one of their albums as it sounds like the band sung it.

There's a series I'd love to read a hundred more issues of.

When I walked away from comics for a long time, COLD WAR was one of the best surprises I found coming back to comics.

I've said before that if there were as many COLD WAR installments as JBNM issues, the latter would be facing stiff competition in my Favorite John Byrne Series category! There are some beautiful pages in that story, including JB's depiction of the car race!

I hope, as you mention "the most fun", that you do get some enjoyment from reading such reviews JB. Personally I'd hate to read such negativity about my work but then I guess that's something you need to be hardened to, to make a career out of it.

I laugh -- but I have also learned the hard way that such things cannot be ignored. For decades I scoffed and said nothing, and watched my career being corroded away by a strata of fans who did not think as logically as I'd hoped.
