Mr. Byrne

I had a few questions about DU characters:

  1. Golgotha – Is the head chest and arm Golgotha, and that he has plugged himself into other’s bodies? Or is what ever changed him only effected the left side of his body?
  2. Hunk – did his body’s final metamorphosis end up being like that of Belabet, or was he just a human shaped/sized stone man?
  3. Doc – What happened to the lower part of his body, as he metamorphosed into the big brain did his body atrophy away and the floating chair take over for his body functions?

I was rereading the comic and these questions started to bounce around.

1. That would be telling.

2. Ditto

3. Doc's body shriveled as his brain grew.

This is actually based on a very disturbing moment I had back in my art college days. One of my fellow students was wheelchair bound, and appeared to have no legs. One day, tho, when we were all in the auditorium for a lecture, he parked his chair at the back and hand-walked down the backs of the seats to a position closer to the stage. As he passed where I was sitting, I happened to glance over and see, to what can only be described as my horror, that he did, indeed, have legs. Tiny, spidery, shriveled things, tucked up under (but as he moved, dangling from) his torso. That's what Doc looks like, arms and legs both, inside the flying harness.

I haven't read DU since it first came out, and I do not remember much about it.  I sold the issues about 6 years ago, but recently bought the TPB.   I will be reading it this week, and I really look forward to it.  I also picked up two more JBNM TPB's yesterday.  There are also on this weeks "must read" list.

I never read DU -- I think it was released at a time I had somewhat drifted away from comics.  Is there any possibility that it will be reprinted?  And speaking of reprints, has there been any further announcement on the JBNM reprints that were, last I heard, in the "talking about it but nothing definite yet" stage?

Question concerning DU for those in the know:

Are all the DU materials that have been published available in the
unfortunately short-lived comic run, or is there additional material
available in some kind of TPB format or possibly something else?

The reason I ask is mainly because there are, on occasion, questions
asked concerning it that refer to information to which I am
unfamiliar about the team, its villains, and its universe (i.e. John's
first question).

The comic run contains the Torch of Liberty back-ups, which is why I kept those issues when I got the DU trade paperback.

The trade contains a final page that did not appear in the series (JB mentioned, I think, that he did not want to end the series on a cliffhanger) as well as a four page preview that was in some Dark Horse book.

For completists, the two BABE mini-series were part of the DU universe and fans of DU would be interested in the end of the second series particularly.

The four issue series and a convention short is in the trade. It also contains a one-page spoiler that didn't appear in the original one. The hardback contains a pin-up that I don't believe appeared elsewhere (DU on Easter Island).

DU made a one panel showing at the end of Babe 2 #2, along with the commission that JB did earlier this summer.

** Darn, Dave beat me to some of it.

Thanks for the response, fellas. I've saved the timeline to a Word
file.

In the interest of not reading the spoilers in the time-line and
finding out too much too soon without enjoying the stories as they
were meant to be enjoyed, can someone post the books one needs
to fill in all the blanks?

Are we just talking about the four DU comics plus the TPB, or are
there other related sources of interest as well?

I would recomend the TPB.

To the Guardians of the Forum Could the DU timeline be added to the FAQ section?
