I've never understood the appeal of ridiculously impractical stripper costumes on female characters. Gamora's original outfit was sexy, but actually looked like something a space assassin (cause I have so much personal experience with them) would wear. To me, the overly sexualized outfits are best suited for pinups and swimsuit magazines.

And emotionally stunted fanboys who need these "date mags," as Bill Jemas once described Marvel.

sigh

Gamora has always read as overly sexualized to me.

Her original outfit was also an impractical stripper costume.

After seeing this I think I'm going to start collecting this line. There goes even more of my money.

In my local deli, waiting on my order, watching the figure skating in the Olympics, and remembering when superheroine costumes were based on the outfits those girls wore!

This statue sold out at DC Collectibles (although some retailers still have it available for pre-order), so they are doing a second run, with medium grey replacing the blacks.

I realize Gamora has always been a sexualized character (I think the name hints at that a bit) but the old outfit, even with the open flesh strip down the front, was far more practical beyond that. It's even a full body suit. The current one is like a bad retread of the embarrassing 90's badgirl comics era.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry, seeing that Gamora sculpt... do they not realize that they sculpted her to look like she's got FAKE breasts?!?!

Sad to think a whole generation of artists seems to think this looks normal.

I've been moaning about this for decades. Back when I was working on SHE-HULK, I often got letters from female readers who thanked me for drawing Jen's breasts realistically. Huge they might have been, but they moved. They were not rock hard cantaloupe halves glued to her chest.

But a flurry of artists coming in my wake drew breasts that looked like the "After" pictures in implant lawsuits. And, yes, many a time I wondered aloud whether any of these artists had ever seen a real woman.

Advice to artists: in profile, a real breast is shaped rather like an inverted question mark, NOT like a capital D. "D-cup" refers to size, not shape!

It's not just artists -- it seems to be an increasingly common preference all around.  I know guys who prefer fake breasts.  If given a choice between a beautiful woman with natural breasts and one with implants, they'll always take the fake.

I wonder if there's something psychological there -- fake breasts being seen as "sexual" rather than functional?

It's generational, I'm sure. For guys who grew up on the fake breasts in skin mags and porn flicks, real breasts probably look "wrong." They're all soft and squishy!

(Twice Told Tale: the guy in the desk in front of mine in one of my high school classes had a huge crush on a girl who sat one row further ahead. She didn't do it for me, and I said as much, prompting him to catalog for me her attractive features, including her "suppulent" breasts. I informed him that was not a word -- but should be!)
