While exploring the Harajuku area, I came upon the shop of artist Rockin' Jelly Bean, the guy who did the art concepts for those "stylized" Sue Storm and Mystique statues of years ago:

I recently finished building Bandai's 1/12 C-3PO and R2-D2 kits. These kits are amazingly engineered and highly accurate! I went for the classic STAR WARS look--weathered and dirty. I was aiming for a mid-movie, "aboard the Death Star" look--hence the dirt surrounding where Artoo's restraining bolt used to be, and Threepio's dented head, as well as the Death Star floor base, with magnets added to help keep Threepio in place. I also built up the alternate hand with the comlink, although I'll usually display Threepio without it, I think.

In order to replicate Threepio's "dull-with patches of shiny gold" look from the first film, I coated him with Elmer's white glue, then carefully dabbed away bits of it with a microbrush dipped in water. Artoo's blue panels were done in the same manner as the original props--steel blue metal layout fluid laid over an aluminum base (aluminum paint, in my case, rather than the real metal parts of the original props). This color looks a lot more purple than blue in person, so I gave it a coat of clear blue to get the right dark-metallic, blue-purple look.

Master Replica 31" pre-built & painted limited edition model of the Nautilus submarine from Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

I was lucky enough to find one of these for sale on eBay earlier this year, over here in the UK . . .
