Stumbled upon this thread accidentally this morning. Reminds me of something I learned about just recently. Hemingway is credited with having written the shortest short story:

Silverberg's era was such a special time for
science/speculative fiction. I didn't discover "it"
(collective for *many* writers) til the '80s, but man, what
a wealth of material.

STAR TREK got me reading sci-fi more than I had before, and in the late Sixties, early Seventies, it was indeed a wondrous time. Silverberg. Herbert. Zelazny. To name but three.
