Thanks, everyone. As things are shaping up right now, it's looking like I won't be making the trip North, but rather bringing his Lordship down here for a spell once the funeral arrangements are taken care of. Subject to change, of course, as such things are, but this is Dad's stated preference. (Something of a Byrne Family Tradition. We tend to be of the No-Fuss-No-Muss approach to funerals.)

So, thanks again for your kind words.   I'll probably be popping up 'round here after all. Just likely not quite so often for a while!

My condolences JB. My grandfather also suffered for many years with Alzheimers before his passing. I hope you and your family can take some small comfort that her ordeal is over, but of course it always hurts to lose someone so close.

My condolences for your loss.   Although you are probably quite familiar with his letter to Fanny McCullough, here is an apropos excerpt from Lincoln’s writing someone recently shared with me: “Perfect relief is not possible, except with time. You can not now realize that you will ever feel better. Is not this so? And yet it is a mistake. You are sure to be happy again. To know this, which is certainly true, will make you some less miserable now. “
