Michael Crichton's THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN right now. For a book that was published in 1969 Wow. Never realized he'd been writing that long.

In-between reading various works of nonfiction, I normally read a novel or two. Just discovered a local author who is gaining some recognition for his detective novels focusing on a woman in the Robbery/Homicide Division of the LAPD. The author's name is Robert Ellis. Really good, compelling and edge-of-your-seat reads. The first book in this series is CITY OF FIRE and the second is THE LOST WITNESS. His third just came out; MURDER SEASON. I'll eventually get the third when I clear some of the other books off my shelf.
Next up is a book that comes highly recommended by many friends and I just received today via Amazon; READY PLAYER ONE by Ernest Cline. Looking forward to it!

I'm about 2/3 of the way thru THE BIG SLEEP by Raymond Chandler. Got all his Marlowe books and short stories in a 2-Volume set for Christmas.

The Age of Wonder by Richard Holmes A book about the emergence of scientific thought in Europe in the late Eighteenth and early Nineteenth centuries. About halfway through and was absolutely riveted but then the section I'm on is about how the poets of the time frame reacted to the new advances in science and I'm finding that quite a bit less enthralling.

MASTER AND COMMANDER by Patrick O'Brian. Second time through the series, first since the movie. I was appalled when I first saw the movie, even more so now. Possibly the worst casting I've ever seen.
The books are much better, and Stephen gets to keep his joke.

About halfway through HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. As for my journey through JB's stuff, I finished SPIDER-MAN CHAPTER ONE last night and will probably start on WONDER WOMAN today.

I've got three going: Joke's Over by Ralph Steadman (friend, illustrator of Hunter S. Thompson) MEANWHILE by R.C. Harvey (A biography of Milton Caniff)--I'm about 3/4 of the way through the something like 900 pages! The Nine by Jeffery Tubin (about the Supreme Court). All have been excellent. MPH
