All this talk of Doom's accent has me wondering about Magneto.
Before he was given a backstory connected to Nazis in WW2, was
there ever a mention of an accent? Did he even have one?

I believe that Xavier, in issue 149, says that he has no knowledge of Magneto's background and origins - so there seems to have been no established accent since there was no established country of origin.

I always hear the voice actor from the 90s animated series.

Looks like he's maybe German, and his name is Max Eisenhardt. So, I guess he sounds like Nightcrawler.

Bah.

Say what?!? How many times are they going to change his name? Magnus, Erik Lehnsherr and now this? It's getting silly.

The Erik Lehnsherr name is supposed to be a gypsy name from
what I understand. Later when the decided to make Magneto
Jewish like in the X-Men movie that was revealed to be an
alias and his real name is Max Eisenhardt. Funny thing is
the movie was the first place to portray him as Jewish yet
they kept the Lehnsherr name.

Why does he have to be Jewish?  The Nazis put Gypsies in concentration camps too. Talk about not knowing your history vs. stereotyping.

The movie wasn't the first place to present him as Jewish. That was
established in comics decades ago.

But my question was about his accent before this backstory was given;
was one ever mentioned?

If you're thinking about Magneto in the days of the original X-Men, then no. We just assumed he was an American Super-Villain in those days. Of course that was long before he was revealed to be the father of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.

The placing him in the German Concentration camps added depth to a character that would have appeared less dimensional as a megalomaniac.  I see the attraction to create that history and stick with it.  It also makes the Pietro/Wanda history more credible.

However, it doesn't jive well with the early X-Men issues, especially with the interaction between Magneto and Quicksilver/Scarlett Witch.

I've always assumed he sounded like Jackie Mason...

Can you point me to an instance of him being Jewish prior
to the movie? Because I remember it being a big deal when
the movie came out that Magneto had that yellow star on
him. Everything I saw in the comics before the movie
Magneto was hinted to be a gypsy.
