Forever Knight gave us handsome tortured vampires before Buffy and
Anne Rice predates them all.

The Sinestro story; there is more there than mets the eye. I probably
isn't the same as Magneto, but then again, they have been pushing the
idea that he did what he did because he thought Corps needed
improving; to force change.

As far as straight up evil Magneto; I don't know if he was all that
interesting.

Hey, don't blame Buffy. They had one (later two) good,
tortured, romantic vampires that were special cases. Every
other vampire were evil demons inhabiting a humans body and
mind.

I never understood why the writers took this basic evil character and then re-worked him into a Simon Wiesenthal type...
