Much of what was posted above by Nathan looks like classic Ditko to my untrained eye.  The two headshots in the upper left and lower right hand corners?  Classic Ditko.  The two men on the left in the panel posted next?  Classic Ditko. Machine Man attacking Sasquatch and his melting head?  Pure Ditko.  It doesn't look "diminished" to me at all.

My impression exactly! I was a little shocked how good these panels looked
to me. The weight rooms, the civilians-- everyone looks like they're gearing
up to meet Spider-Man and Doctor Strange to me.

I'm going to have to revisit Ditko's 70's/80's Marvel work. I was too much of
a punk know-it-all to see it properly as a kid. (Weird, because I loved his
Spider-Man in the Pocket Book editions I got at the same time).

About the only non-JB depiction of AF members that I like is JRjr's Sasquatch in the 3-issue Contest of Champions LS

For me, the best by far non JB AF is Paul Smith drawing them in X-Men/Alpha Flight.

I actually prefer JRJR's earlier style.  I'll have to get that FF issue now too.  I didn't know about that Vindicator appearance.

The funny thing was I first saw Sasquatch in Hulk 272 and then in Contest of Champions.  These are the issues that got me interested in the character which led me to Alpha Flight and into comics in general.

Besides the Rom and Marvel two in one issues mentioned earlier there was also a Marvel Team-up Annual that featured AF(post AF#1).

Marvel reprints in the UK often would feature a main story with a back-up story or two (they used to slice and dice so that they only printed part of each story per issue). Machine Man used to run as a back-up story in one of the comics I collected, but I forget which one. Maybe Transformers or Secret Wars.

So I first came across this story very early in my comic reading life -- before I knew anything about Alpha Flight or John Byrne. I didn't really think much of Ditko's art at the time and certainly didn't know anything about him being the guy who co-invented Spider-Man.

Looking at it now, I quite like his version of Sasquatch -- which is a character that so many artists have struggled to capture properly.

Aurora, however, is all kinds of wrong to my eyes. Obviously the white hair jars, but she also just looks too old, for some reason. Maybe it's all just down to the white hair, but I think it's the harsh look on her face as well.

Although appealing, Paul Smith's Alpha Flight look/feel nothing like JB's team to my eyes...
