And a pardon for Michael Flynn. Trump calls him an innocent man.
The Republicans like to talk about the rule of law, but there is a similar pattern here to the way they have handled the election loss and Trump's lawsuits. To the press and on social media they say one thing, but in a court of law they tell a different story.
So the public message to their base is that Flynn is a man maligned, a man tricked by the FBI into confessing to something he didn't do.
In court, when directly questioned by judge Emmet Sulivan if the FBI had acted improperly or whether Flynn had been entrapped, Flynn's own lawyer said 'No, your honour.'
Here's what his lawyer said at the sentencing hearing:
'General Flynn has been, I think, clear from the beginning and will be clear again to you today that he fully accepts responsibility, stands by his guilty plea, which was made based on knowing and willful conduct.;
