There are certainly questions that need to be asked about how the Capitol building could get stormed like this.
Adding more context to the image posted above: that is an image of the National Guard on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on 2 June, after a weekend of BLM protests.
This is the National Guard outside the Capitol tonight:

If CNN is to be believed, there seems to be some growing momentum behind a push for Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment.

Twitter says 3 tweets today from Trump have been removed, and his account "will be locked for 12 hours following the removal of these Tweets. If the Tweets are not removed, the account will remain locked."

I have thought since the election that Trump is so profoundly stupid that he thought he could "negotiate" his exit from the White House, even though there is no legal route for something this insane. It's similar to a strategy he has long employed in legal disputes - tie things up in court with endless appeals.
This would play out in a scenario in which he would leave and admit defeat only if he gets a pardon for his crimes. At the end of the day, Trump's desire to be president is most likely centered around his trying to avoid massive debt and tax fraud charges.
The closest I heard of someone predicting this is Bill Kristol, spitballing in an interview a few days ago that, at an extreme, Trump would resign and Pence would immediately pardon him.
All of this sounds insane, yet nothing seems out of the question after today.

In other news, his kids are still morons as well:
Tiffany Trump thought now was a good time to wish brother Eric Trump a happy birthday

If nothing else, a sane Republican party would've demanded Trump's immediate resignation from the office he keeps abusing... today. No more pardons for crooked pals, no more speeches by Giuliani or Trump Jr. directly inciting combat or intimating violence in backyards, no more rambling incoherent loons citing a guy who saw a guy who knows a guy that witnessed hundreds, thousands, hundreds of thousands of ballots blah blah blah.
No more confederate or Trump 20anything flags either; they mainly represent ugly intolerance and a divided nation.
13 more days of this orange and yellow exit wound is 13 more that need not be.

Watching Congress as they reconvene... did both McConnell and Schumer refer to Pence as "Mr. President" more than once?
