Could we see a second impeachment before 20 January?

We might see a 25th Amendment invocation.....

I still don't like Pence due to his discriminatory religious views, but I've gained more respect for him for following the rules and not going along with Trump's bs.

In all the insanity of yesterday, I do like that the current Congress reassembled
after the Capitol was cleared to confirm Biden. I think voting directly after the
insurrection obviously changed votes and shortened the actual debate.

But I also think it was beneficial to get the Trump crew on record as voting to
disenfranchise voters to keep Trump in office. They looked even more awful in
the aftermath, and the quick vote didn't give them time to see just how bad it
was going to look. Getting them out of office will is already a Squad goal and
will also keep The Lincoln Project very busy with Trump himself leaving office.
They were so entrenched in their devotion to Trump that they didn't have time
to realize just how much the stink of this will stick to them.

I think the Republicans who voted "yes" have a fundamental misunderstanding
of what made Trump popular. We have talked extensively about WHAT he is
saying and how he stirs anger, racism and paranoia to attract the base. But he
lost the support in the middle with the "what" of his campaign - ultimately,
siding with white supremacy will lose votes. It's a depressingly small amount
and should be bigger, but enough for him to lose

Rather than just focusing on the content of Trump's message, we should look
at the WAY in which addresses his audience. He speaks without notes and
from the hip, and it gives his message an authenticity that is only reinforced by
his position and the image of him that has been created for reality TV. I think
the real reason he speaks without notes is because he is stupid, lazy, and
arrogant enough to think he can fake his way through it. But he truly does
connect with them while other politicians read from prepared notes. And
reading from notes creates a wall.

For me, one of last night's most impactful post-insurrection speakers was
Corey Booker, whose death stare seemed to be melting fellow senators. And
his speech about how the Capitol was invaded by people with the flag of a
monarch hasn't been brought into the Capitol since the British burned it down.
And then he noted the confederate flag's presence which is just sickening.
Booker did a great speech, and I finally realized why he is dating Rosario
Dawson and I, tragically, am not.

Fuck him. And fuck all the republicans who are just beside themselves
and are standing up to him. They’ve had four years to do the right thing
and have chosen to ignore that EVERY time. They wait until he’s got
one foot out the door, then grow a spine. What he did yesterday was
absolutely nothing different than what he did all thru his term as
president. Hell, even before. So fuck every one of those spineless
hypocrites.

The only Republican in federal office right now I would spare a couple of brownie points for would be Mitt Romney, he voted to impeach Trump on one of the two articles at least, Collins and Murkowski both really blew it there, and the departed Flake blew it when he voted for Kavanaugh. I didn't want to see a president Romney, and I really wouldn't want to see a president Pence, but if they have to have him for two weeks as the lesser of two evils... but no more pardons for any Republicans or their staffs! That Trump is so focused on pardoning himself is because he is guilty of crimes and extreme abuse of position. :^(

Ms. Jansen, Ben Saase seems to have his wheels screwed on tight as well.

This then is the worst situation in Congress; without doubt, there are good and respectable Republicans who are waiting for their chance. They lack the courage to stand up and be the first - but they aren't bad public servants.

One of the funny but tragic things at yesterday's "rally" was that when 45 spoke to the "protesters", he told them he was going to march to the Capitol with them.

Once the "protesters" made way to the Capitol, 45 immediately hopped in the armored limo and headed back to the White House.

While the "protesters" are trespassing and vandalizing the Capital, 45 is laughing at these nuts.

Fucking dumbasses!!!!! These folks would take a bullet for a guy that doesn't give a rats ass about them.

What I'd like to know is, can the "protesters" who actually got inside the Capitol - especially those who caused damage -  be charged with sedition?

And can Trump himself be charged with either sedition or inciting a riot?

------------------------
What the protesters did went beyond sedition. Sedition is inciting people to rebel and try and overthrow the authorities. For example, saying something like you should all march down to the Capitol and you have to make a show of strength in order to take back our country.

Acting on sedition is insurrection: open resistance against the powers of the established authority. For example, someone who admits they stormed the centre of government in the hopes of creating a revolution is guilty of insurrection.

The D.C. National Guard was pretty slow in getting involved...

I saw a report that the DoD attempted to activate the DC Guard but were denied. DoD cannot activate a Guard unit without the consent of the respective governor, but the District doesn't have a governor. Guess who has the authority to activated the DC Guard. Trump.

Trump denied the activation of the DC Guard.

It was Pence who eventually authorized the DC Guard's activation.

Here's a source:
