They are not "protestors" - they are not even good enough to call a "mob,"
because they organized online well ahead of time.
They are terrorists, and a new DOJ will arrest them.
Trump has now entered the territory where he must be removed and/or
arrested. He's is guilty of inciting a terrorist insurection, and yesterday is just
one more example of the double standard afforded to he and his white
supremicist followers - Trump pays no consequences, and now his
confederacy is taking selfies with the cops. This emboldens them, and taking
the Capitol is the million dollar optic they craved.
If Trump is not arrested, we are back to 1876 - we are telling the confederacy
that they have a get out of jail free card. While we all were seeing or hearing
this unfold yesterday, the conservative media was reporting that it was antifa in
Trump disguise. If the republicans party is going to have a faction that has
"alternative facts," then we will truly be torn apart.
We need hard consequences now. We know these lies are so embedded that
this will not resolve this in the short term, but we must delegitimize these lies
now for the future. If there are no consequences, all 147 asshole republicans
will use this strategy time and time again.
And it will work. As we saw yesterday and have seen through history, the
politics of hate are powerful.

on whether the officer has died or not.

Terrible - and I fear there will be more violence.
We are already hearing stories leak about what is happening behind closed
doors, but it is largely to fact check Trump - for example, Trump is now trying
to say he sent the National Guard immediately, but in fact he refused and
Pence had to do it (as Byron noted upthread).
I am interested to know what his cabinet is doing - in particular with the
nuclear football. I predict that his cabinet has already removed his ability to
launch missiles in the same way Nixon was restricted when he started boozing
his way through Watergate.
It's been such a crazy week that the fact that all surviving secretaries of
defense wrote an op-ed warning that using the military to settle elections
would have disastrous results was published just last Sunday. In any other
time, this would be unprecedented - but today the article seems obvious and
essential.

Révolutions sometime only need a match,
women asking for bread and bound to
Versailles, poor guy immolating in
Tunisia...these were fortunately only a
few hundreds of idiots (not 70 millions)
led (!) By a fleeing coward and your
police fortunately (almost) did not shoot
the crowd/mob...
Get rid (and forever) of this Mad
man...but he is a symptom of problems ans
forces still présent.
On this subject, I'm binging and enjoying
Designated Survivor. A show started in
2016 can't have been made with no 2nd
thought. Your thoughts ?
