Yeah, I was going to say: the points you make pretty much cover it, Marc. You obviously cannot remove someone from office that no longer holds that office and therefore the whole point of a retrospective impeachment would be to block Trump from holding office in the future.

I'm semi-worried that he'll be able to deal his resigning for a Pence pardon.

Impeachment via the senate also means the removal of Secret Service protection, removal of air travel, removal of pension - Basically all the perks of being a president. Really hoping this happens!

I hope they finally throw some heavy-duty accountability at this whining fool even if he does a scuzzy deal of resigning to get a Pence pardon over trying to write his own. I hope there are serious 'law and order' charges for the deliberate and destructive things done and laws broken as there would be for anyone else. The damage isn't even over, he has managed to get a Georgia state official to resign and be replaced with his stooge. It's still going on!

Plus, he’d be the only one ever impeached twice.

McConnell is said to be pleased about impeachment, believing it will be easier to purge Trump from the G.O.P.
Wonder which was more of a motivation: getting the corporate dollars back or being in the crosshairs (literally) of the Trump cultists.

The Vice Poodle has declined the 25th Amendment option. At this point, I completely give up on trying to understand what passes for Pence's brain. Is he courting Trump supporters for his own run in 2024?

I used to be able to say ironically "I blame Al Sharpton" and have it taken as a dig at the fringe right (before Rev. Al it was supposedly Jesse Jackson riling the people up). That time went out the window in 2016 and I never said it again, it was the start of a know nothing revival. Blaming the Democrats is pretty much akin to the battered wife yelling at the kids that their father only beats them all because they must be provoking him. All relationships involving Trump as president or party leader have been dysfunctional from the start because it's impossible for there to be anything else.
Yeah, you must have done something to provoke Trump, now let's all tiptoe quietly for awhile and not provoke him further. In fact I think Pence expressed a few times something about not wanting to provoke Trump, so I guess the plank is the battered wife there. :^/
