Rep. Eric Swalwell: "I've read many of my GOP colleagues know what the president did was wrong, but are afraid for their lives if they cross the president. I'm sorry you're living in fear, but now is the time to summon your courage."
Rep. Jason Crow: "This Congress sends our young men & women to war. Not asking my colleagues to storm the beaches of Normandy, only to show a fraction of the courage we ask of our troops."
If the GOP are so afraid to defend the Constitution that they swore an oath to maybe they should reconsider WHY they are working in government!

I'm inclined to believe the GOP know why they are working in government, but the reason(s) have nothing to do with governance.

... and THAT will be in the history books forever.... Most bipartisan impeachment in US history. Hopefully all the insurrectionists will be held accountable for their actions.

Okay, guys & gals, what is your opinion:
Is Mitch McConnell being crafty yet again by how he plays on his decision to indict Trump in Congress? See, I think that he has likely let Trump know that he has Trump's balls in his hands, and if Trump plays nice for another week, McConnell will wait until Biden is in office and then vote NOT to indict Trump. But, if Trump causes more sh*t storms for everyone, especially doing things that make the Republicans look even worse, McConnell will lay the hammer down on him.
Right now, Trump has every incentive to make McConnell happy. If he plays ball, I just bet McConnell will let him off the hook once trump is no longer in a position of presidential power.

I think McConnell knows that Trump does what he wants, and there’s no point in holding out a carrot.
My take is that currently he thinks Trump’s usefulness has expired and that he’s more hindrance than help. The mood may change in a week, so he’s not rushing to commit to something now.

File this one under predictable yet hilarious:
"Trump has instructed aides not to pay Guiliani's legal fees, two officials said, and has demanded that he personally approve any reimbursements for the expenses Guiliani incurred while traveling on the president's behalf to challenge the election results in key states."

My guess, McConnell wants to throw Trump under the bus, but does not want to be seen to do so. So he holds off the trial until after the inauguration, then sits back and watches Chuck Schumer do it for him.

Re: McConnell, I think this is an extremely calculating person and a pragmatist.
For that kind of person, keeping their options open would seem like the best avenue for them.
To stonewall the impeachment would be to send an unacceptable message about how it's OK to attack Congress. To bullishly pursue a conviction immediately would be unlikely to make any great difference in the outcome of a successful conviction, but would commit him politically in a way he won't like and crucially might reduce the chances of a successful conviction. As I understand it, to get all the votes they need, it would require both McConnell to vote in favour of a conviction and actively push for Republican votes. To quietly canvas opinion and work on those that could go either way might take a few days, if that is the way he is leaning, and there's not guarantee on that.
