The first thought for me seeing that pencil page and lettering was late '70s/early '80s Will Eisner. Can't wait to see the page inked!

It goes without saying that this project is awesome. Even though this story continues from around 137 it DOES feel current and forward-moving. I find it hard to believe you would erase those pages and start again. You're a brave man-

It’s the George Lucas in me. With each issue the pencils have gotten tighter and more confident. Problem is, readers are going to see this issue first—and even if that’s under someone else’s inks, I want the line as clean as possible.

I think 'potential readers' is implied.

That splash page has an almost 1970's Kirby-esque feel to it. My initial reaction to it was it reminded me of a something from his "The Prisoner" art with the lines. My second thought took me to "Space 1999" but I don't really know why. Seeing the Blue Area is a fantastic treat (I can almost see Scott's hand print on one of the walls in the background) and it takes me back immediately to the cover to 137 (My all-time favorite cover of yours...followed in close second by 141)
You also did the cover for the X-men Classics of 137, but did you read the interior? I was wondering what your thoughts were on that backup story about Jean's soul after the events of 137

People can read that Classic X-Men backup here...

I'm not sure what I think of it, the art is okay but the dialogue is pretty awkward in spots. Is this supposed to be Rachel at the end in the tube thing?

Funny you mention Ditko...your spectacular splash immediately evoked memories of FF 13and my first Blue Area visit. As Eric Ladd said, the textures! Echoes of Kirby / Ditko but it's still pure Byrne and I like the text, too.
