Feathering like this over JB's pencils would make me swoon. I like the visual results of John's FF run more than the X-Men run, but think both are great art. I think someone with brush and a quill expertise would have to tackle the blue lines of Elsewhen to give the art a more traditional look and feel.

Incidentally, doing a little googling for the Blue Area of the Moon I was delighted to see that most of the images used for the comic book version are mine. Well, okay, it's basically the same image repeated multiple times, but for that kid who read FF 13 and, that night, checked to see if the Blue Area was visible from where I lived...

Well, it's a hoot and a half to have become part of the mythology like that!

My unpopular opinion - I've never been a huge fan of Byrne/Austin, at least in comparison to Byrne/Byrne. I remember thinking the back-up in FF #238 (the story where Ben gets turned back into the mudball Thing) didn't look right to me.

••

I've said before that Terry's approach and mine, even in the matter of building a figure or a face, are and were very different. Fortunately, as far as most fans were concerned, the whole was greater than the sum of the parts.

I think the pencils we have seen so far are so tight and detailed that Terry Austin would work in this case.  And it would be an enormous homecoming for fans of the original run.  If whatever chemistry from JB & Austin’s conflicting styles created the look of the original run, then it would be great to see it today, and on this title.

Tom Palmer and Klaus Janson brought a different look to their X-Men collaborations with JB.  And the results are wonderful and helped define the identity of the books.  I would really like to see what Austin would do with this.

You are also the first match when Googling "Savage Land" right now.

John: Not to speak specifically of any of the people suggested, but a main concern, of course, would be discipline and professionalism. Don't want a fill-in inker on the third issue!!

That does seem to be a problem these days, especially with Marvel choosing (idiotically, in my opinion) to publish certain titles twice each month. Joe Bennett, for instance, is continuing having to skip an issue of The Immortal Hulk, or have writer Al Ewing come up with a narrative gimmick (flashback, concurrent plotline, etc) allowing another artist to help out. One wonders how certain of today's artists would have coped in the old days, when some folks (such as yourself, John) were pencilling two or three issues each and ever month.

I'm not sure if people understand how different a Byrne/Austin combo would look these days?

The last time they worked together was 2001 (if I'm remembering correctly). Here's some examples:

...and I'm not saying those examples look bad at all! I'm just pointing out how different the combo would be... not sure if everyone gets that...
