I, for one, have absolutely no problem with this approach -- and isn't it unquestionably appropriate for robotic duplicates?!
It's not like you forgot (or refused) to add the necessary shading to 126 and 127 too, after all.
Logic pertains here, not lazy.

And they'd show what fools they are in doing so. Nevermind that you are hardly the first to use a copy of the same image for artistic effect -- I recall a number of instances where artists used photostats of an image for repetition -- but I see no "cheating" in using whatever tools are available.
People who criticize in such a way usually do so from a place of envy or jealousy. They can't produce art, or not at the same level as you, and so look for any perceived chink in the armor to try to expose as some weakness.
Again, such people are fools.

Over the years I’ve found myself getting in trouble for some of the most benign actions. Using photo reference, using an Art-O-Graph, tracing models, USING models—even tho these are things artists have been doing for years. I have strong memories of my own reactions the first time I got a peek behind the curtain. Surprise to discover Neal Adams made copious use of photos, for instance. I thought such things were only for mere mortals like me. But I took it as a learning experience. Some fans don’t. They respond with hostility to anything that is not how they assumed it would be. Which is odd, really, since often I am merely a wee bit ahead of the curve, and not long after more and more people are following the same paths.

I've seen a number of artists get raked over the coals for using methods 'traditional' illustrators have been using forever.
Non-artists don't understand (or don't want to).
I try and be careful about how much of my process I show, precisely because of that.
