Re: Stark’s image inducer. Shooter complained that it had become another power for Nightcrawler. I agreed, and reduced the use of it. But it’s much too handy a tool for Kurt (and the artist) to abandon it completely.

Bone claws were made even dumber by nearly every artist that depicted them. They were always some jagged, gnarly protrusions that resembled pointy tree branches. Every one of the pencillers apparently forgot what bones look like. Or perhaps they never knew.
Never mind the fact that claws are not made of bone.
Crap like that took me right out of comics.

I've often said that an important question has fallen out of comic creation over the years.Time upon a once, a story conference would be all about tossing around ideas, some "cool", some stupid. And, usually, if an idea was seized upon, someone would say "But what happens next?" I don't get the sense that question is being asked much, if at all, any more.

Re: my earlier 'multiple powers' post, I wasn't trying to prove or win an argument about specific characters - but I guess what I was trying to ham-fistedly get across is that it's open to interpretation, if you 'want to' enough.
Give a character a fundamental, uber-powerful basis for their powers (magnetism, meteorology, sonics, etc) and with imagination you can justify many disparate abilities that the base power affords. Specific examples have been provided in relation to the characters in my prior post (either the interpretation of the reader or the interpretation of the writer) to espouse why each character fits the mold.
Again, not trying to win any argument, but what if Nightcrawler's power is Dimensional Manipulation? One might argue that teleportation and invisibility in shadow are merely abilities of that base power. Sure, he looks weird and is agile (have you met Hank McCoy?) - but agility may merely be a natural physical ability honed over years of practice. A better counter argument might be: why the need to hone one's athletic properties when one can teleport?
But my point is, one can justify any character as fitting the mold, with enough imagination - and more importantly - 'wanting to' enough. We've already seen in prior comments that the use of Astral Forms and Induced Images can be justified/permitted when it suits (and that's fine with me).
I absolutely agree with JB's comments that often creators think up something cool but don't follow through sufficiently on "But what happens next?" In recent decades that has been taken to extremes, and often to the detriment of the product and the history of much-treasured characters. However, sometimes something is so cool, despite the lack of logic surrounding it, that is warrants letting through. If we'd never done that, we might not ever have had superhero comics.
Ultimately however I am not trying to prove I am right and anyone else is wrong, I just have a different perspective that I think is equally valid - plus I really miss the fuzzy elf.
But I don't want to hi-jack this comments thread and make it the Nightcrawler show. These Elsewhen stories are JB's rodeo and even if I have seen the last of Kurt in these fabulous pages, I am not going to throw my rattle out of the pram - the ride is far too good!

Most super powers imply others in support of them. Wanna fly? Better have some invulnerability to go along with it, or you won't be able to fly very high or very fast. Same for super speed and super strength. Being strong enough to lift a tank isn't going to be much use if your muscles tear loose of the bones, and the bones shatter. Also not a problem when a single power is used to generate other effects, like Banshee and Storm being able to "fly". Problems arise when the multiple uses spring from multiple powers. Nightcrawler can teleport, but that's not part of his ability to cling to walls, or his manipulation of light, which are not connected to each other. And where DOES that sulfur and brimstone come from? Nightcrawler was created to be a member of the Legion of Substitute Heroes, and as such he was a literal demon. When DC rejected the character and Len Wein decided he wanted to use him in the "All New, All Different" X-Men, nothing was done to address Kurt's various violations of Stan Lee's "rules". And there was also the problem of new powers/abilities showing up. Invisible in shadow, for instance. (Why not invisible at night, then?) The image inducer. Etc. Roger Stern commented that Nightcrawler was like Green Lantern's ring. He kept doing stuff he couldn't do last issue.

One of the things I like about the Sub-Mariner being "Marvels first and mightiest mutant" is that it isn't his prodigious strength and toughness, command of undersea creatures or various aquatic abilities that make him so, but the tiny wings on his ankles which enable him to fly.

I really like that energy effect (in the lower left panel) you achieve with the eraser, JB.

I could read a JB book about the Shi'ar going about their business in the galaxy for years. Really enjoying space stuff in X-Men for once.
