There's a separate thread for this, Steven.

Not trying to sound clever, but I'm surprised to hear anyone thought it was anyone other than Lilandra. Lilandra had the hostless phoenix force, She tried to control it. Says she lost, cries out in pain, we see A'raki turn to charcoal as Lilandra screams. We are told his death is at the same time as a birth. Next issue we meet the new Phoenix after this birthing. To me the straightforward assumption was that it was Lilandra (I know the straightforward assumption isn't always the right one, but to me it even looks like her as well).
Cool to have Professor X reaching out to use Jean's telekinesis on this page.

I agree -Storm looks amazing and the lightning effects really stand out well too.
Normally, based on prior Storm vs Dark Phoenix confrontations, I'd say Storm's chances don't look good, but it's possible the current Dark Phoenix isn't up to full power yet. Also, Storm may have held back before knowing it was still Jean, and she may have learned a thing or two from the prior fights and will hit hard and fast. Not saying she can win but...

That first panel of Ororo is frightening... and so fantastic. It's easy to understand, from this portrayal, how she was considered a goddess. Of the X-Men, I would think that those who would have a shot against Dark Phoenix solo would be Storm, Polaris maybe, and Professor Xavier.
But the point is ridiculous. Look at this setting on this panel. Dark Phoenix' greatest threat is Scott Summers, even more than Jean Grey. An X-Man never fights alone... they're a team. And the tactician supreme is Cyclops. Honestly, Dark Phoenix is in trouble.
It's a goddamned shame that writers had to tarnish and corrupt any super heroes... but especially Cyclops. He was pure good guy, genius organizer, excellent warrior and fantastic leader. I'd take him to run my team probably on an equal level with Captain America. And that's what I expect in this issue.

Cyclops was something his writers could only aspire to—but didn’t.

Seems like Kitty is having trouble controlling her phasing ability, which... feels right. She's brand new at this and facing a cosmic entity is likely to break her concentration.

Putting the finishing touches on 16 today, and realizing in the process that I scanned this page on April 9, which means I probably drew it a couple of weeks before that.Time's fleet chariot. . . . . . . . . .

This might be a strange question. The Shi'ar have those strange curlicues around their eyes.
Does that represent some anatomical feature like an eyebrow or birthmark?
Or is it some kind of makeup around the eyes worn by both males and females, and thus a fashion statement?
I wouldn't be surprised if there is no official answer since to draw them in comics you don't need to know. It just needs to look pleasing to the eye. But even if not, I'm curious if in JB's mind there is an answer.
