The character Sprite (who Kitty is here) is greater than the character Shadowcat (who Kitty became without your hand and the wheel).

Hyperstorm is just such an awful name. Honestly, weren't there any even slightly-better codenames available?-------------------------------
Maybe it was a homage to his paternal grandmother, Sue Storm? Like, "hey, I'm the hyper-STORM!"

Oh, I get the basis for it, Richard, but... ugh. There are just some names you cannot imagine a character using outside of their own head.
See "Taserface" in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2 for an example.

Mr. Byrne, a separate question. What do you prefer the cosmic entity to be called - Phoenix, Dark Phoenix, or Jean/Lilandra/Professor Xavier/whomever the current host s?
ITEM: Hyperstorm sounds like the child of Ororo and Gladiator, were they to conceive a child.
REQUEST: Mr. Byrne, please don't do this.

Shadowcat slipped into the canon after Heinlein published THE CAT WHO WALKED THROUGH WALLS. Coincidence I’m sure, since Kitty was all about cats and shadows. (I thought at the time that it would actually be a better name for Nightcrawler.)

What was the origin of the name Sprite? Or Ariel?

Mark M. - I can answer one of those. Someone was watching a very old television, and saw the V-shaped reception device on top of it, and thought, "Saaay... THERE'S an idea!"

I love today's page, you can really feel what it might be like to have that sort of ability.
I thought this was a cute comment on Kitty Pryde around when she joined The X-Men. Jaime Hernandez (before Darwyn Cooke or Bruce Timm), 1980 (color by me as it said "color it!" originally)... hope it's welcome here (C) DC Comics Inc. etc.
I know I reversed the 'S' colors. I like it that way.

The story pacing continues to be a delight, and on page 11 (where Storm comes to add a jolt to the proceedings) the panels have a delightfully askew / Dutch Angle (to borrow a cinematic term) feel to them. Effectively capturing how they must have been feeling in the split seconds after Lilandra Phoenix's hold was broken

Ariel comes from Shakespeare. He’s a magical servant of Prospero in THE TEMPEST. Sprite I just thought was cute.

What would Kitty’s code name be if (like four of the five original X-Men) it gave an indication of her power?
