Powerful prose today. Epic.

And yes, I now recall the arm feathers. I just think they are easily forgotten because most dress covers them. God is in the details.

…Lilandra's arm feathers…

••

These are not new, are they? Didn't I show them when Lilandra and Xavier were off on vacation together, and she was in Earth garb?

••

You did indeed show them in #113 when she was on holiday with Xavier but Lilandra also has them in the last page of #108 and first page of #109.

Lilandra's co-creator Dave Cocrum drew Lilandra with arm feathers in #105 so you're depiction has always been on model, a professional trait of yours I've always appreciated. Just one of the many reasons I'm so enjoying this run of X-Men.

So what is the relationship between  Lilandra and Deathbird?

Is she an offshoot of the Shi'ar?

If I remember correctly,  they were both introduced around the same time in the X-MEN and  Ms.Marvel respectively.

1976-77?

Gladiator looks relatively unscathed on this page—not how he looks in more "present" images. I'm thinking a fight scene is coming.

Perhaps, "too powerful to be destroyed by the Phoenix... in this way" (i.e. dropping a palace on him)? Or maybe, he really is indestructible (as long as he never doubts himself, yes?)

Now that's a cliffhanger!

Why are you so cruel to us, JB?

"too powerful to be destroyed by the Phoenix... in this way"

********

You’re adding your own dialogue to fit your own perception of the
character.

David P. - Man,  you made me squirt Diet Pepsi through my nose! I'm charging you up for a new monitor!

And you're exactly right. I wouldn't get in Gladiator's way for love or money.

I have no problem believing that Phoenix isn't powerful enough to destroy Gladiator, usually. However, we saw in Mr. Byrne's FF 251 (sic?) that Gladiator's powers work because he believes in them. If his confidence is assailed, then he can even be taken down by a bonk on the head by Captain America's shield.

Irreconcilable? Not at all. All the force Phoenix can bring to bear is not  enough to harm Gladiator - but she might be able to affect his mind, and she could knock him silly - but couldn't destroy his form.

My consideration is - if I recall correctly - the Kree, Skrulls, etc. were perfectly willing to destroy Earth (or have it done by their agent, the Shi'ar) to stop Phoenix. I wonder whose attention Lilandra will draw? Can't wait! (Corollary: in X-Men - 136, maybe? - Dr. Strange, the FF, and the Silver Surfer* all noted Jean's transformation and exit from Earth. I wonder who'll show up as a cameo this time.)

*Gee, it's sure a good thing that Phoenix could fly out of Earth orbit faster than the Surfer can fly. Bet I know who came up with THAT one..)

Why would Lil-Phoenix be able to affect Gladiator’s mind? I always
thought that was simply Jean’s power that was being used. Amplified,
of course, but still her abilities being used.

So what inherent powers does the Phoenix force have?
