JB: But these two have never gotten together before……..

I could've sworn they teamed up once! Geez... well, better late than never!

I think one might observe that THIS Magneto has never appeared anywhere else before and his encounter with his Dr. Doom went quite differently (no "getting together" involved).

Ted Downum said: Doom's "guest room" seems...oddly familiar, somehow. Like a place you might end up after investigating an alien monolith. ***** Great pickup Ted! What I like about this homage to a certain 1968 film is that far from a trace, this is a thoughtful composite of a bunch of different design elements from that room and each has been slightly size and shape altered / furniture repositioned so that it's only apparent if you're looking for it and still very much John's own thing.

I’m not sure why it popped into my fuzzy old brain to use that particular room, but in addition to a quick google, I even pulled out my ancient copy of Kirby’s 2001 “adaptation” to see how he’d handled it!

Very interesting fact I learned today: Latveria is only a few hundred acres? That's much smaller than I ever imagined! Now I understand why people in comics would refer to Latveria as a "postage stamp" kingdom.

I'd love to see what postage stamps issued in Latveria might look like! :^)

Maybe you guys are thinking of Acts of Vengeance where all the villains teamed up.

"Maybe you guys are thinking of Acts ofVengeance where all the villains teamed up."
And the other five masterminds (Doom, Magneto, Mandarin, Kingpin and the Wizard) all hated the Red Skull! Especially Magneto...

I love the 2001 room reference - I didn't pick up on it when reading the page, but I really get a kick out of reading here in the comments. Reminds me of when I read that the Grey house was based on the BEWITCHED house - what a fun reference, and it doesn't take away from the story when you are first experiencing it.

The freehand approach in the opening shot of Doomstadt really adds an element of age to the architecture. I particularly like the building on the right of the panel with the slightly askew chimney. You can really feel the "weight" of the snow on these buildings.
Edited for clarity.
