Clever use of that scene you’ve often mentioned, regarding Wolverine!

This origin just keeps layering on the tragedy. I'm glad to see that Logan's core of decency is still there after all the pain and torment. He's more self-aware than most.

I wonder. Since the point here is NOT using drugs, would the Keepers of the Code be upset?

(Truth to tell, that would mostly depend on who was doing the reviewing on any given day. Consistency was not a strong suit with the Code!)

At a guess, the CCA wouldn't have allowed Sprouse to be holding a joint and might have "suggested" that the dialogue be amended to make his advice/invitation less explicit, but would let the not-being-drugged part stand.
Of course, it's entirely academic now, and happily so.

As Dick Giordano pointed out to me, once upon a time, Lee, Kirby and Ditko did most of their work under one of the most stringent periods of the Code.

Sometime, rules can help us tell better stories. (Would Wolverine killing that guard in the Savage Land be so memorable if we'd seen it on camera?)

I wholeheartedly agree with that. I'm happy that the arbitrary and capricious nature of the Code and its gatekeepers no longer has sway over the industry, but agree that its rules didn't prevent good storytelling.

My issue was more with how the Code was enforced than with its existence in and of itself.

Did I see something that wasn't there or did I see something that is no longer there?
