Your uncle reminds me of someone close to me who is highly educated, smart and generally balanced about the world who is also a supporter of Trump. Not because he isn't aware of many of Trump's shenanigans (we've discussed it plenty and he acknowledges Trump is embarrassing in many ways) but simply because he is fiscally conservative and believes the dems will "bankrupt" the US with entitlements, etc. I've reminded him that Trump raised the debt more than any president in US history with much of the money going to the wealthiest people / corporations through tax breaks and his reply is that COVID "distorted" things. There just seems to be an "us and them" brick wall mentality that doesn't allow for reasoned debate any more. People are entrenched in their views and don't see themselves as extreme (he probably finds me to be extreme to turn it around.) I've already kind of given up on congress ever regaining any bipartisanship or much civility but now I'm starting to despair for what seems like a permanent loss of it in daily life, as well. Just reading that last sentence makes me wonder if I've become a Richard Vernon; maybe so. But I'm still sad about it.

It would have been nice, if only for a few days,to have experienced a reality without Trump, but with Newhart.

A few days of showing respect to Biden and his accomplishmentswould be nice too.
Regardless, next week will be an interesting week. (Cue dramatic music!)

I feel like the Benny Hill theme would be more appropriate.

AOC made some good points on why the Democrats should keep Biden on the ticket.
LINK
1) There is no unanimous support for having Harris lead the ticket. An open convention would be chaotic and could lead to lawsuits by Republicans especially in swing states saying it was too late to change the ticket, which could mean the Supreme Court could end up deciding the election.
2) Any support Biden and Harris may not be transferable to other candidates that replace them like retirees for Biden or minority women for Harris.
3) She also mentions that most of the Democrats coming out against Biden are being influenced by their wealthy donors and not necessarily their constituents.

AOC lost all credibility with me as a progressive quite a while ago, so her coming out like this doesn't shock me.
I believe her to be 100% wrong in her take.

JB: Everything is 50/50. Either it will happen or it won’t. ===================================== Ummmm. No.
Just because there are only two options to a particular question doesn’t mean each option has an equal chance of happening. Each time I play the lotto I’ll either win or I won’t. That doesn’t mean I’ll win half the the time.
