After watching some recent interviews with Peter Buttigieg, I'd pick him in a heartbeat, but again this is late in the game I wish this happened in 2023 and be better prepared for this fiasco.

What a sad, sad day this is for Biden. Remove the pomp and circumstance, and we are left with a frail old man who worked his whole life toward a cherished goal, achieved it, and now has had to give it up. This could kill him.

Now the Speaker of the House is urging red states to challenge the ballot in court.
Could he be afraid of a candidate (like Kamala) that can crush 45 in a debate and bring the women voters out?

If media are to be beloved (Hah!) Trump will be angry. He thought he could beat sleepy crooked Joe. Now the Dems have a chance to nominate somebody under 65 with no history of nepotism.

Call me a glass-half full kind of guy, but I think this makes him a great man. Truly putting country before his own personal ambition. Last great lesson for someone from his generation to teach the next. He took on the presidency for noble reasons, he did a great job, now he is choosing not to run for noble reasons. There can definitely be a spirit of, "Do it for Joe" in the campaign moving forward. Trump is now not only the crazy candidate, and the felon candidate, now he's also the OLD candidate ... If Harris is the candidate, I hope there is some residual payback voting for him beating Hillary in 2016.

It seems it would have to be Harris. She was elected by the people as VP then elected again this last primary.Unless the Dems plan on having another primary, you cannot throw away the peoples votes.

I have no idea what will happen. We're in wildly uncharted territory.
There's probably still opportunity to nominate someone else, if the Democratic Party wants to live up to its reputation as self-defeating and chaotic, but Harris is the easiest and makes most sense. She was already elected to be Biden's successor, and received as many primary votes as he did. And to the extent any Democratic politician enjoys stature, I can't think of a realistic possibility whose stature exceeds Harris.
People are underestimating Harris when they dismiss her as Black Woman Dan Quayle. Vice presidents are always unpopular and perceived as nonentities because a position that's part rodeo clown and part hype MC is murder on the dignity. I will be surprised if she isn't a much more effective campaigner than in 2020.
Kamala The Cop versus Don The Convicted Felon is definitely an upending of the parties' traditional law and order postures. She will definitely fillet Trump in a debate, should he be so unwise.
In case it's not clear, all of this rationalizing is the best whistling past the graveyard I can summon.

Do debates win elections? John Kerry and Hillary Clinton were considered the better debaters when they ran.
I would love to see Pete Buttigieg as VP. Harris will probably pick a governor though.

Who said debates win elections?
I wish Biden had dropped out of the race 24 hours ago. It would have been within seven days of last Saturday's Trump shooting, so it could have capped off the end of just one crazy fucking week. Instead, it has kicked off yet another crazy fucking week.

If I had the ear of Biden, I would say to him,”Mr. President you may have just saved our country from Trump for the SECOND time.”
