Much as I am loath to agree with the Speaker, I think Biden should now resign and Harris should be immediately elevated. It would serve as a clear message that she is the candidate. I would not expect this to end all grumbling, but at least it would bring some much needed focus.

There is also a clear advantage to running as an incumbent. I’m sure the Speaker knows that, I don’t get why he is proposing it. I guess he just can’t resist twisting the knife in Biden.

Her becoming President now means her VP might not be hers to pick at random. I forget all the legislative wrinkles but there is a possibility that the house would end up in control of the VP choice and or that smarmy bible banging mike Johnson could end up VP.
If it made sense (legally, electorally and legislatively) for her to become President now….I think they would hav done it.
Also…it’s time to DUMP THE DONKEY! I don’t know how a jackass became the party mascot, but the jokes need to stop writing themselves. Democrats need a NEW mascot and think given how freaking terrified the GOP party leader is of sharks….well….

It was cartoonist Thomas Nast who pegged the parties with their mascots—and neither were intended to be complimentary!

If Harris became President, she could nominate someone to take over as VP, but that choice would have to be approved by majorities in both the House and Senate. So Johnson’s House could refuse to approve any candidate, just to sow chaos and keep Johnson as first in line for the Presidency.
Installing Harris as President would probably strengthen her candidacy a bit, but it would also humiliate Biden. His withdrawal is based on the premise he’s not up to four more years of this, not that he’s incompetent right now. I can’t see him going for that.

Remember when Obama got elected and how it absolutely broke the Republicans? Imagine Harris winning in November if she's the candidate.
I would want her to win for 100 other reasons, but watching them crumble again would be pretty sweet.

But she won’t win because the only way Trump loses is thru cheating, remember?

Trump will cheat... and since everyone knows this, should prepare accordingly.

Let Biden complete his term.
It'll let Harris totally focus on beating the Felonious doG.

If Harris becomes President now, then she could only serve 4.5 years at most. Leaving Biden President allows her the possibility of 8 years. Plus, once we enter the lane duck period, Biden can do all sorts of things that are distasteful to the Republicans. Pardon Hunter! Give Ukraine a nuke! Have Trump flown to Guantanamo Bay!
