I wasn't buying FF at the time*. I was a poor kid with only enough allowance to pick no more than a few titles. I was one of those kids that increased X-MEN's sales numbers when Paul Smith was about to leave his short run. Getting engrossed in Claremont's run, he kinda made it feel like the rest of the Marvel Universe was against them, and in a show of "support", I stayed away from other titles.
BUT...something about #260 made me make an exception, at least enough that I traded one of my other comics to a schoolyard kid so I could have it. I did the same thing for #243. So if anyone asks me what my favorite issues of the run were, I have an easy answer.
*I was the oddball that was buying ALPHA FLIGHT at the same time as not buying FF. Again, limited budget!
EDIT: while I'm being complimentary, Glynis Oliver deserves a shoutout for the coloring on the first panel. The water flowing around the field could have been a real mess in lesser hands, but the selective white highlights really gave it depth.

242-244 is absolutely my favourite arc. And after that it's all Dr Doom stories: 236; 246- 247; 258-260. I do have soft spot for Diablo in 232 as well, which kicked off the great run. And 285 is a classic... Mustn't mention everything :)

I posted about this on the forum many years ago, but since it came up again in the podcast conversation with John, here's the JB sketch gifted by my friend that we talked about...

And here's a photo of my repainted Diamond Select FF figures we briefly touched on (The Thing is a repainted Marvel Legends figure)...

If I'm remembering correctly, that drawing was something JB put together for Randy Bowen for a possible statue design? The podcast was wonderful, but I missed the part where you mentioned the drawing, apologies if you covered that on the broadcast.

Wow… those action figures might be the only shot of the FF’s uniforms as they should look! Great job!

Hate the articulation, but Sue in the second group has a better face.

Absolutely agree on the face sculpts - I'm not sure what Diamond was going for... It's a nice sculpt, just of someone other than Sue.

The current contenders in my casting for Sue are Jess Bush and Louisa Jacobson—tho I just learned Ms Jacobson came Out a couple of years ago. More power to her, sez I, but I think there are too many “clever” writers who would want to fold that into the character. (Think of Mr Sulu.)
