I'm lucky to have had the same comic store for the last 20 years. All they care about is doing business. There isn't any personal agenda. You want a book. You tell them. They order it for you. Probably why they've been in business so long.

Y'know, I can't imagine going into a shop, ordering a book, and have the owner (or whoever) refuse to place the order because they didn't like the crative people on the book. I would drop all my orders and be out of there. That's just stupid.
Sadly, I have no doubt it probably does happen.

JB was the first Marvel writer/artist I actively followed after '81 when I was
handed my buddy's collection of stuff, but I've only ever followed him on
characters I was interested in and/or his own creations, so I missed out on
Namor, X-Men Hidden Years, most of the West Coast Avengers stuff and
Wonder Woman (and Lost Generation, until I bought the run last year).

It probably happened.  I don't know if you saw me talk about my effort to get Blood/Demon #1 or not.  The shop near me closed up and I found a new shop in a mall.  The shop refused to order Blood/Demon.  They took down a list of people who wanted it and TPTB still refused to order. No reason was given. One of the shop register-trolls or whatever they're called took it upon herself to go to another comic shop and buy some copies and bring them with her when she was working.  I bought her last copy of Blood/Demon #1 and she told me what shop she knew did have it.  Anyway, the store in the mall went out of business a few months later.

It was never said Byrne was the reason it wasn't ordered but Doom Patrol quickly became hard to get at the mall store.

When you don't order a title when a dozen folks attempt to pre-order and customers specifically ask after it, something is seriously wrong with your business.

If she was nice enough to do that, the last thing I would call her is a troll.

I wonder if they balked at the Demon part more than anything else.

Good question!  For me, since the days of UNCANNY X-MEN with Claremont circa 1979/80. I've bought everything JB's done for 25 years.

Since Fantastic Four 243, though I didn't read the term 'faithful fifty' until reading it in 'A Flame About This High'.

Gosh Matt, the exact same situation for me as well. 79-80. 13 years old hunting the local drug store every week for new Byrne comics. I think have either owned pretty much everything before and after that fateful first day back in late 1979.

I doubt that 12 is a true reflection of those fans of yours amongst us. If it is, then that's pretty sad.
I know I'm a life-long-fan...just a little pissed that you've never given me a Bad-Byrne-Story of my own...all these other fans seem to get one;-)
