I finally reconnected with Jacob Chabot at a convention! Since I first became aware of him I knew he would do a great version of MTU 68....I had no idea it would be THIS good!
One of the main draws to Charlotte for me this year was the chance to meet Jerry Ordway. I was third in line to meet him on Friday and was able to get this fantastic Captain Marvel sketch from him. He was nice enough to indulge me and included Mr. Mind!
One of the great aspects of comic conventions is the ability to find artists that I'd otherwise not have a clue about. Laura Truxillo is a recent SCAD graduate. She is working on developing a comic, featuring a young Lucky Luciano. She put together an ashcan with a handful of pages. Loved it and am psyched to see it become a reality. I immediately asked her for a commision of the two main characters and hope to see much more of her work.
Received this today, a friend picked it up from Tom. First time I had Medusa as part of my theme, asked Tom to use JB's design. Really turned out nice.
Here's an example of why it's fun to leave most of the details of a piece up to the artist. I requested a Garfield-themed commission based on the cover to MTU 68, Andy Hirsch came up with an Italian food monster for Garfield to tangle with! I'm imagining Garfield is having some bad dreams after eating too much lasagna:
