John: Yeah, I made a non-articulated combination Cap/Private Rogers figure, then encased him in polyester resin. Here's how I did it:
1) Pour some Plaster of Paris into a disposable plastic cup (30 ounce works really well), sculpting the outer shape of the iceberg. Don't worry if it's not perfect. You can change it later.
2) Pour about 1/2" of catalyzed clear polyester resin in the cup. As it starts to gel, put the Cap figure in head first. You may want to stabilize him by tying his feet to a craft stick.
3) Pour successive layers of resin in. I found that if I put too much resin in at once the heat of the curing resin warped the cup, so only put an inch or so of resin in at a time.
4) Let cure for a couple days. When everything's set up good and hard, flip the cup over and tap the sides and top to release the iceberg.
5) If you've got too much plaster, or don't like the shaping, the resin iceberg can be dremeled into any shape you wish.
For what it's worth, I've discovered that the figure inside is more visible if the iceberg is wet. But since he was supposed to be barely visible, I decided not to add any kind of acrylic clear coating.
