I finished it Friday. The first half for me was a slow build too, but the pay-off was worth it.
Since this was a 10% discount impulse buy, I certainly got my money's worth!

Picked up SPQR - A HISTORY OF ANCIENT ROME by Mary Beard. Hope it will be as riveting as the squibs on the back cover say. This is one of my favorite (top three*) historic periods."For the Senate and the People of Rome!" _________________ * The other two being ancient Egypt and Elizabethan/Tudor England.

The Library of America put out some very nice collections of his work a while
back that I'd recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy his material.

I need to check that WW2 title out, James. Looks up my alley.Currently making
my way through Spinning Blues into Gold...a book about Chess Records.
Interesting to me because I'm familiar with all the regional references, but kind
of dry.

I dive into this book, then, with delight and anticipation, looking forward to learning more of the WHY as well as the WHAT.
