My other "making of" book about 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY turned out to be a little less substantial than I'd remembered, so I went ahead and ordered:
SPACE ODYSSEY: Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke and the Making of a Masterpiece, by Michael Benson [2018]
Looks to be a much more detailed account... cracking it open tonight!

Now sampling the third Easy Rawlins mystery by Walter Mosley. I enjoyed the first two in the series and thought it was time I revisited it.

Just casting my eyes up a few posts and James' mention of Billions and Billions... James, beware of chapter 19 'In the Valley of the Shadow' and the Epilogue.
Those two entries just had me in tears the first, second and third times I read them. They'll wrench your heart out.

Peter, I shed a few tears as well... Mr. Sagan left this mortal coil far too soon. I remember watching COSMOS on TV back when it first aired and then reading the book about a year later. Then when I was sixteen I read BROCA's BRAIN, which further kindled my interest in science. Sagan had a gift of communicating scientific ideas and melding it with history that few writers have ever matched. It is hard to believe he has been gone for over twenty years now.
