Thanks much for the kind words.
"Will you be inking it?" The pinups, no. The sequential
page from my Chavez bio was inked by Larry Welch. I'm not an
inker; I would only be tracing my pencils in ink, and it's not very
much fun for me. I put so much into the finished pencils that
inking becomes a redundant chore for me. I'd rather let someone
who knows what he's doing do it, like my friend Larry, and let me
concentrate on creating the page.
I've drawn ever since I can recall; more than thirty of my thirty-six
years. Professionally, since 1992 or thereabouts. Pro work,
I penciled issues five through eight of Man Of War for Malibu Comics
and an unpublished comic featuring hip-hop group The Pharcyde for
Rock-It Comix. I storyboarded the Fox motion picture Soul Food,
and have done various freelance assignments as well. In 2002 I
self-published an educational comic based on the life of Cesar E.
Chavez entitled Pride Of The People.

Wait, wait, Glenn - I knew about your Malibu stuff, and I've got the Cesar Chavez book, but you did an unpublished Pharcyde comic??? I've GOT to see that!! Could you post some here? Or send me an e-mail at mrarkadian@yahoo.com?
And why aren't you doing a comic for Prince? I thought the two that have been published were ok (Great Bolland cover on one of 'em!) ((In fact, are there more than two?)), but your stuff is great, and I know you like the guy... I'd love to see more Prince comics!

Chris, Darren; thanks for the comments! Appreciate it much.
Darren, that's a nice piece you just posted too.
Mike, the Pharcyde book was was done in February, 1994 and never saw print. Malibu had just cancelled my book as well as the rest of the Protectors line (which was their main superhero line: MOW, the Ferret, the Protectors, Gravestone), and went full-bore with the Ultraverse line. Rock-It was one of their licensing imprints. I was never given any reason for why the book wasn't published. The pencils were all approved when I turned them in, and I was paid for my work, soooooo...in a way, I was glad that it didn't see print because it was a horrid project! The writer had no idea about hip-hop OR the Pharcyde, so the story was basically about four anonymous black guys who get sucked into a mystical vortex where they were on the lam from a sorceror and his minions, which included a giant talking rat. Brothers had eyeballs floating around their heads, magical saxaphones, flying carpets...I kid you not.
Next time I scan some stuff, I'll keep you in mind and see what I can dig up...
Re Prince, I would love to do an entire line of licensed properties featuring icons such as him. I just need an agent and an opportunity!

When i draw, I tend to smear graphite all over the place..does anyone else have this problem? Any way to prevent it?
JB, when you are drawing, do you let your hand touch the drawing surface much? or do you keeep your hand off it? Your drawings looks so dense with lines and yet so clean. How do you manage that?
