Buy something now, wait 20 years.

Seriously, when I bought Stately Byrne Manor I knew I was getting an "investment", but I really had no idea! 20 years later, to get an idea of what I can realistically expect to take out of this place, take my original purchase price and stick a 2 in front of it! God Bless America!

Two things:

ONE: JB you are right about the investment thing.  My parents are contemplating moving and they are AMAZED at how much the house could sell for...same situation with them, only put a "4" in front of the original purchase price.

TWO: I will gladly second Wayne's offer of moving furniture for art.

That is all.

Next time, I'm hiring movers...

*******************

Wish I had a dollar for every time I said that and another dollar for every time I didn't do it.

Good luck on the impending purchase/ sale JB!

Matt & Wayne are good folk, but they missed Tim and I lowballing them earlier in the thread.  Our offer was for free.  (Well, I asked for fried chicken, but you know, I was kidding.)

Excellent advice. DC real estate is skyrocketing-- but I'm afraid that this is a bubble and that prices will either level out for the long term or take a dip. However, when the marriage/move is done, we're going to find a condo for sure. Ownership of a home is the only way to go.

And that's great about the property value of Stately Byrne Manor! This would mean, what, a 2000% appreciation in value over 20 years? Amazing. (BTW, if I was a house-hunter, I think it'd be damn cool to walk in and see Robbie the Robot, even if I knew it wasn't going to be staying afterward...)

Oh, and seriously?  O'Brien and O'Neill?  Sounds like a moving company, doesn't it?

I don't trust that O'Neill guy. Anyone who doesn't know it's "I before E except after C"... Well, that's just so wrong!

Heh. My folks bought 80 acres 50 years ago for $15,000.00. Every five years we pay that again in property taxes.
