I sure hope that we see a pencils edition from IDW - no matter what happens with the comic.

So cool!
Love those camera angles!
and Scarlet Witch, what can I say, you own her. She was part of my next commission I had planned.

The list of Marvel characters that I think you draw a definitive version of is long indeed, but near the top of the list is Wanda Maximoff. Great page, JB. Seriously, you are at the top of your game.

I'm a little late in the thread, but I wanted to be on the record as saying that I prefer the Nightcrawler and Colossus uniforms from JB's run (not rounded shoulders) for several reasons. The main one is that I have missed these characters acting and looking right for a very long time. I really never thought I would get to see "them" again. Personally, I would find it jarring to get SO close, but to have different costumes. Having said that, I could get over it. I'll go wherever JB wants to go with this. He's earned my trust.

JB, on that Scarlet Witch page (that I just saw for the
first time, nice) it got a question in my head. Do you
have just as much fun drawing the establishing shots as
you do the action shots, or do they feel more of a drag?
It looks like you put a lot of time into it.

From where I stand, you've hit the nail on the head, Charles. This project resonates so much because the characters are the ones we remember. Not close reflections, not the versions they grew into over lo those many years, but the real deals, the versions we loved.

The pages JB has posted resonate so much because they re-introduce us to those characters we knew from decades gone. Much has changed, but here they are, the team you remember-- AS you remember them.

Yes, in the great scheme of things, the shoulder tailoring of the costume becomes small potatoes, but I would contend the reason this project has such a charge is because it promises to keep the characters absolutely on model.

Jack Kirby designed Cyclops' visor a certain way, and that counts for something.

Dave designed Nightcrawlers's uniform a certain way, and I think that counts for the same weight.

But you defeat your own argument. Kirby designed the uniforms one way, which changed. The changed versions became the accepted versions. Then Dave made his own changes, which in turn became accepted—until I made my own changes, which became accepted...

And, again, I don’t want to sell this book purely on nostalgia.

Not being familiar with Artists Edition, I have to ask...In the event IDW publishes this project and not Marvel, would these pages appear as stories with dialogue or just as pencilled pages ?
