One of the things I'm enjoying about following the development of ELSEWHEN is the return of the feeling that "anything can happen". From here, unencumbered by all the barnacles that have accumulated on the X-Men and Marvel, you really can go anywhere, and do anything. It's a feeling that has been missing in my enjoyment of comics lately, where so much of what is published seems rote or uninspired. •• One has to be careful, tho. As has been noted, Chris went a little crazy with X-MEN FOREVER, to the extent he ended up with a book that didn't have much in common with his original run.

Yeah, Claremont did go a little crazy with FOREVER. And I say that as a fan of his. To me, it seemed like Chris Claremont does better when he has a strong collaborator, and a strong editor who can keep him on the straight and narrow path.
I suppose I'm just trusting, based on decades of serial observation of your work, that you can avoid falling into the same trap he did.

HALP!!I've been scouring my ESSENTIAL volumes, and I can't find the point at which Jean established the "mental rapport" with Scott. I thought it was aboard the crashing space shuttle, but the scene I'm remembering turns out to be her using her telepathic powers to knock him out. Anybody have a better memory? (As usual, please only answer if you KNOW.)

it's done as a flashback from the top of the butte near Angel's place after she "holds back his optic blasts"
Scott remembers it as he's being held captive by the Hellfire Club

And can I add, how refreshing it is to have a writer actually care about continuity!

Scott and Jean's* "first time", as established by Weezie and Walt.
*Of course, drama ensued since it turned out that she wasn't actually Jean!

That scene of Scott and Jean on top of the mesa reminds me of how a good story can be open to interpretation on many levels, depending on your life experience.
I first read that issue as an eight year old and I knew they were being intimate, but nothing more than kissing. As an adult you can infer that there's more than that going on.

Just peeking in for any updates to this ELSEWHEN project... and enjoyed seeing another awesome page - JB, you never disappoint me... and it makes me day-dream of all the great X-Men stories ahead - whether official or unofficial.
Fingers crossed that you have something in mind for Magneto and the Brotherhood in all of this!
-C!
