Here's an example - sort of - of what I was mentioning in my prior post about the "running" thing. It's typically done in a panel for an interior page, but this is close enough to show what I mean:

It's that from-the-side shot of someone running that I don't see very many other artists besides JB doing, so I attribute it as a "Byrne-ism."

For a while there was that side view that was a full body profile of the character, usually along the panel border, but it’s been quite some time since I’ve noticed it.

Examples of Byrne tropes?

Being an absolute git to his characters!!!!!

But we love it 'cause he's soooooo good at it.

Well, I’m hesitant to feed the trolls by providing them with data they can burrow into, but this is, of course, the first opportunity I’ve had to work extensively with Kitty.

(There’s an alternate reality! What if, when I quit, I’d asked to take Kitty with me?)

-----------------------------------------

Rather oddly I saw a thread recently on CBR about Creator Pets and the character that came up the most was Kitty with Claremont and Whedon and others all mentioned for using Kitty and over-powering her etc. Not one mentioned her creator of course.

Not sure if this is a "trope" or just damn good writing.
JB has the uncanny ability to make characters I didn't give two shakes about previously into compelling story complements.
Some examples are; the Tinkerer, the Fiddler, Vulture...

As for art, the slight head tilt comes to mind, and the power punch which I think is the best since Kirby!

Kitty was not created as a Mary Sue, but she sure got turned into one!

I think this page is a great example of how JB uses space and movement and placement in panels to convey storytelling.

BTW, I wasn’t fishing for compliments. Feel free to comment of Byrne-isms you DON’T like! (Forum membership jumps 400%...)
